ORC - Week 7: Painting the kitchen cabinets

It’s Week 7 of the One Room Challenge and there is only one week to go!!! For the last several weeks I have been prepping the cabinets for paint! Scrubbing them down, sanding them & priming them! It was finally time to actually paint them! I have to be honest, all the prep was a bit daunting because so much went into it with little to show. But it also gave me a way to procrastinate in doing the final step! As silly as it sounds, I felt nervous to actually paint them because I was worried it wouldn’t turn out the way I have envisioned it.

I started with the back of the cabinet doors first. I used a tack cloth to make sure there was nothing on the surface and then got started! Using my Wagner paint sprayer I make sure to spray the edges and the grooves first and then cover the rest.

I let them sit for two days until I flipped them over to spray the fronts. (Let me say for the record, I don’t think you would need to let them sit this long, I just did because 2 days was the soonest I was able to get back to the project!

After the doors and drawers were finished I began the cabinet boxes and island in the kitchen. I used a regular angled paintbrush, a foam brush, and a foam roller. I started with the bristle brush to get in cracks and grooves and then went over the brush strokes seconds later to smooth it out!

I am blown away by how this color has transformed the kitchen - and the doors are not even back on yet!

One more week of the ORC and I have to:

  • Tile the backsplash

  • Put the doors back on

  • Add Hardware

  • Switch out lighting

  • Change faucet

  • Put the entire kitchen back together!!

Here is the current, end of week 7 view! Do you think I can do it all this week?! Seems like a long list but I’m confident it can happen! I work very well under pressure!
