ORC - Week 6: Time to Prime

It’s already week 6 of the One Room Challenge and it is finally time to prime! I began with the cabinet frames, I used a 3’ cabinet roller and a small paintbrush to get into the cracks. After I used the paintbrush I would use the roller so it would have a smooth finish.

Just a note - primer is thin, it’s like watered-down paint. I used 2-3 coats on everything to make sure I was getting good coverage, especially since the wood I was covering was very dark.

PREP THE DOORS & DRAWERS

Next up was to prime the doors and drawers. I am using Bulls Eye 123 and it says that you do not have to sand to get a great finish. However, I decided last minute that I was going to sand all of the doors and drawers because I am trying to get the most perfect finish possible.

I used 120 grit sandpaper and sanded everything! It took a long time, however, I can already tell it’s going to be worth it!

PRIME THE DOORS & DRAWERS

After painting the cabinet boxes with a brush and roller, I knew there was no way I was ever going to get this kitchen done doing the doors and drawers this way. So I went to Lowe’s and bought a paint sprayer!

I sprayed one coat on all of the backs and once they were all dry I sprayed two coats on the fronts.

I am blown away by the finish!

Next up is paint - I can hardly wait!!
