ORC - Week 8: TIle, lighting & finishing touches
It’s Week 8 of the One Room Challenge which means the challenge is completed! Over the last eight weeks, we have completely transformed our kitchen from an outdated ’90s style to a modern retreat! I want to pinch myself each time I walk in because I still cannot believe it’s the same kitchen and we did it!!
In the eighth week, there was still lots to do! We installed the range, the new light fixtures as well as the faucet! The main project for this week was to tile the backsplash.
For tiling, I decided to use MusselBound. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a double-sided adhesive that you stick to the wall, stick the tile to it, and then grout over it.
First I laid out all of the MusselBound and hung it where the tile would be placed. Tip - hang it vertically and then piece it in from there.
Next, it’s time for tile! I decided to go with a traditional subway pattern. Once you get started it’s a breeze - everything was going great until I ran into the electrical outlet. I needed a tile saw, so I rented one from a local hardware store.
I watched a quick YouTube video on how to use it and then got to work! I loved using this saw, and the cuts were perfect!
So this weekend was also my daughter’s 6th birthday and birthday party. There was quite a bit of planning to pull off a party and so most of my time went to preparing it for her. With that said - I ran out of time with tiling and ended up not getting all of the cuts completed with the wet saw before I had to return the saw.
Since I was not able to complete the tiling, I was not able to grout either. However, everything else is complete and you can still see the almost completed look!
Before I share the reveal, let’s revisit how the kitchen started…
I loved being a part of this challenge! At times, I didn’t think it would ever come to an end but here we are and I am obsessed with how it turned out!
Thank you for following along the last eight weeks! I am excited about the fall challenge!
