One Room Challenge - Week 1: THE KITCHEN RESURFACE

I have been following along with the One Room Challenge for years and this year I decided to be a participant! If you’re not familiar with the ORC, it’s an eight-week challenge to transform an entire space. The fun part is that you have a community of other DIYers doing it with you! The added bonus is that there is a deadline, which is a good way to keep me on track!

When I decided to enter the challenge I knew exactly what room I was going to tackle…THE KITCHEN!!

From the first time I laid eyes on the kitchen I knew it needed a facelift. The cabinets are beautiful custom cabinetry however, they’re 28 years old and need a bit of love! AND don’t even get me started on the floral tile backsplash above the stove. Ohhh man, I’m sure it was the thing in 1993, but I dream of the day I rip it off the wall!

THE BEFORE

THE VISION

I am drooling just dreaming of this!! I have dreamed of deep green cabinets for years and years and it’s time to bring it to life! This project is not a renovation, but it’s not just a re-fresh - I am calling it a re-surface.

THE PLAN

Chance and I will be:

  • Painting the cabinets

  • Replacing light fixtures

  • Adding new hardware

  • Tiling the backspash

  • Removing a cabinet section

  • Adding a runner and artwork

  • Making the inside of the cabinets more functional

I am so excited to be apart of the One Room Challenge and I can hardly wait for the deadline because we will be living in our new kitchen!

Follow along to watch this project unfold!
