ORC - Week 4: Caulk & Paint
Week 4 of the One Room Challenge was all about painting. The existing wall color in the kitchen was Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, and although it’s a nice color I wanted something brighter and something that would coordinate with the green that I’ve chosen for the cabinets.
I decided to go with Sherwin Williams Alabaster. This is the color that is in the living room and I wanted it to flow into the kitchen giving the allusion of an open concept. Alabaster is my favorite white paint color because it’s bright but not a “sterile primer white.”
Anytime I paint I always go with Sherwin Williams Super Paint. I have tried several paints in the past and I always come back to this one. The coverage is great, particularly because it’s a paint and primer in one - it saves so much time.
Something I like to do to create an elevated feel in a room is to use the same color on the walls and on the trim. I just use a different sheen - let me break it down!
Walls - Satin
Trim - Gloss
I love the way this looks - I have it painted this way in our living room and in our basement.
THE MAGIC OF CAULK
One of the best ways to make your DIY not look like a DIY is caulking. When you take the time to run a bead of caulk in the gaps of your trim and molding you will instantly make your room look so much more complete and elevated. It’s these small details that make all the difference.
Take a look at these before and after shots!
BEFORE CAULK
AFTER CAULK - When I took these shots I was only one coat of paint in - but can you see the difference, right?!
Instant elevation! The caulk dries in about 30-45 minutes and then you can just paint right over it!
Painting was my progress for the week - and I love how it’s changed the kitchen! Next up is to prime the cabinets and repair the huge hole in the wall where that lovely tile once lived! See you next week!
